These docs are a reference manual for the ACIM Atlas analysis. They describe how the dataset was produced and what the scores and labels on the site mean.
They are not an introduction to the project itself.
- To understand what ACIM Atlas is and how it can support your study, see the home page and About the Project.
- To see what the analysis has revealed about the Text, see the Findings page.

What these docs cover
The docs are organized into three sections.
The Pipeline documents how the motif analysis was produced, pass by pass. It walks from the manual definition of the motif controlled vocabulary, through the section-by-section annotation of the Text, to trail synthesis, corpus metrics, editorial content, and co-occurrence analysis. Start with the Pipeline Overview if you want the full picture, or jump straight to an individual pass.
Understanding defines the scores, codes, and categories that appear on the site. If you have seen a motif labeled a “Core Pillar,” a salience score of 0.75, or a controlled code like corrective / Holy Spirit / self, this is where those terms are explained.
The Glossary is an alphabetical reference for the terms used throughout the site and these docs.
What this project does not do
ACIM Atlas does not store, host, or reproduce the text of A Course in Miracles. The site’s content is original editorial commentary, paraphrased descriptions of motif behavior, structural metadata, and analytical scores. Every section links directly to the corresponding passage in the ACIM Web Edition published by the Foundation for Inner Peace. The project is designed to be used alongside the published Text.
The scores, codes, and categories describe where themes appear in the Text and how they behave. The commentary built on them, including the motif Arcs, the Journey essays, and the practice cards, reflects the author’s understanding and interpretation of what A Course in Miracles teaches. It is one student’s reading of the Course.
