Understand the Motif
Memory of God: The eternal knowledge of yourself and God that lies unchanged in every mind, placed there by God and incapable of being lost, though it can be denied through the choice for separation.
Memory of God: Remembering God is not the retrieval of something past: what is remembered is present now, so to remember is to stop denying what is already there. The memory of God waits only to be restored to awareness. It exists outside of time and underlies the ego’s entire structure. The decision to forget was active and deliberate, made through identification with the ego and strengthened by guilt, which is what blocks remembering. Recovery requires that guilt be removed through forgiveness, that peace be established in a quiet mind, and that you rejoin with your brothers, since God cannot be remembered alone.

T-16.IV The Illusion and the Reality of Love · Paragraphs 11-12 acim.org/acim/en
Your link with God underwrites your ability to remember truth.
As you read, notice how the theme Memory of God appears in these paragraphs.
Consider the Context
The motif is consolidated with a metaphysical reassurance: God cannot forget what makes Him whole, and your link with Him is the basis for your ability to remember truth. Forgetfulness is therefore not an ultimate condition; it is a temporary delay sustained by fantasies and substitutions. Memory of God is anchored in God’s constancy, not in your fluctuating attention.
Gratitude is emphasized as a practical companion to remembrance. Gratitude acknowledges the link instead of arguing with it. Turning away from illusions is presented as the way the mind stops postponing remembrance through fantasy. This stop reads like a steadying hand: you do not need to create the link or earn God’s memory. You need to stop delaying what your link already guarantees and let gratitude support the return of truth to awareness.
Reflect
What fantasy or illusion am I using to postpone remembrance, and how might gratitude help me return to the truth my link with God already guarantees?
Practice
When you notice yourself escaping into a fantasy today, pause and name one thing you can genuinely be grateful for right now. Let that gratitude bring you back to the present. Then ask the Holy Spirit for the purpose of this moment, and follow the simplest peaceful impulse.
