Understand the Motif

Revelation: Direct, non-reciprocal communication from God to the mind: an experience of pure unspeakable love that produces permanent knowledge and suspends doubt and fear entirely. It is not perception and cannot be described or conveyed to another.

T-1.II Revelation, Time and Miracles acim.org/acim/en

Wordless union: revelation suspends fear and cannot be translated.

Revelation is defined here as a direct experience that comes from God and temporarily suspends doubt and fear. It is so personal that it cannot be converted into meaningful words or concepts. In other words, it is not a message you deliver and not an action you perform.

That distinction matters because the ego loves to make spirituality into a project. This unit refuses that move. Revelation is treated as original communication—one-way in its Source—and its content remains beyond explanation. If you try to translate it into advice, you will almost surely substitute the ego’s meaning for God’s. Your practice stays with what you can choose: willingness, honesty, and openness to being taught.

T-27.III Beyond All Symbols acim.org/acim/en

Beyond all symbols: God’s final step ends perception completely.

The trail reaches its zenith: revelation is portrayed as a power beyond forgiveness in which symbols fade and sensory perception ends. What remains is simple being, and the final step is again attributed to God. The motif’s earlier distinctions now pay off: miracles and forgiveness are means, not the final language of truth.

This clarifies the whole journey. Forgiveness and miracles use symbols—words, relationships, situations—as learning aids for the mind. They are essential until they are no longer needed. The goal is not perfect symbolism; the goal is the quiet certainty beyond symbols. So we use the curriculum gratefully and let it fall away when its purpose is complete.

Reflect

What symbols—roles, words, spiritual identities—am I afraid to let fade?

Practice

For one minute, set aside every label you use for yourself and rest in quiet awareness. If fear arises, offer it to God and return to stillness, letting symbols be optional.
