Understand the Motifs

Fear: The emotion of separation: the anticipation of punishment that guilt makes inevitable. Fear is what keeps the ego’s thought system from being looked at, and it is sustained only by the belief that attack and guilt are real.

Means—End: The inseparable law that means and end reveal each other reciprocally: the end you hold determines which means you perceive as available, and the means you choose testifies to your actual goal.

T-12.IV Seeking and Finding acim.org/acim/en

The ego’s program of searching for love without finding is exposed, and the Holy Spirit reorients purpose so seeking becomes finding, life, and shared inheritance.

As you read, notice how the themes Fear and Means—End appear in this section.

Reflect

Where do I keep myself seeking by secretly fearing what I claim I want to find?

When I feel driven to seek, what do I fear I won’t find within myself?

Practice

Think of one thing you say you want—peace, love, healing. Notice any fear around actually receiving it. Say: I am willing to stop using fear to postpone love. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you accept the answer now.

Pause and name what you’re searching for (approval, security, clarity). Say: “I’m willing to look within for the answer.” Sit quietly for a few breaths and let the urgency ease before taking the next step.
