T-30.I Rules for Decision acim.org/acim/en
A practical protocol turns every upset into a chance to stop judging, offer little willingness, and let the Holy Spirit decide the day with you.
Recognize What's Happening Beneath
Under the practical tone is a deep undoing of the private self. The ego wants certainty and control, so it treats decision as a way to protect an idol—image, safety, specialness—and then uses fear as evidence that the world is dangerous. The rules expose the loop: fear is the effect of the judgment you chose, not a signal that you must defend.
What is being trained is responsibility without self-blame. Mind is cause, yet guilt is not the point; you can choose again with Help. This keeps the form/content distinction clear: you may still address form, but you stop making form the source of peace. As the counselor changes, the same day becomes a classroom for joining—peace received and peace given—until guidance feels less like contradiction and more like gentleness.
Reflect
When I’m upset, do I ask for guidance after I’ve already decided, and how can I choose peace first instead?
Practice
The next time you feel tension, pause and say, “I want peace.” Drop the question you were asking yourself, admit you dislike the feeling it brings, and allow you might be wrong. Then ask, “Show me another way to see this,” and wait in stillness for 30 seconds.
