T-26.I The “Sacrifice” of Oneness acim.org/acim/en

Sacrifice is unmasked as the ego’s bargain for a private self, while oneness is reclaimed as freedom through the Holy Spirit’s practical path of joining.

Recognize What's Happening Beneath

Under the arguments sits a single fear: joining will cost you what the ego values—specialness, control, and the right to judge. The ego answers that fear by making loss seem necessary and by recruiting judgment to secure innocence at someone else’s expense; the cost is always the same—distance, scarcity, and the expectation of pain.

The deeper correction is not austerity or behavioral self-improvement, but forgiveness as a change of mind. When the belief in loss is offered to the Holy Spirit, the same relationship becomes a classroom for remembering what cannot be sacrificed: the shared identity of the Sonship, untouched by time, already safe.

Reflect

In my current conflict, what private self am I trying to protect by assuming that somebody must lose?

Practice

Name one conflict and write the hidden rule: “Someone must lose.” Offer that rule to the Holy Spirit and ask to see an outcome where no innocence is sacrificed. Pause and let the premise loosen, even slightly.
