T-21.III Faith, Belief and Vision acim.org/acim/en
Faith pursues the goal you choose; turned from sin’s bargains to the Holy Spirit, it becomes vision that undoes sacrifice and reveals a world of joining.
Recognize What's Happening Beneath
Under every example is the same quiet claim: sin is not a list of behaviors but a chosen purpose in relationship—the desire to limit and keep separation meaningful. That is why sacrifice and fairness can feel reasonable while they still serve attack, and why changing forms without changing purpose leaves the conflict intact.
The deeper invitation is to stop trying to force certainty or fix effects, and to work where cause actually is. Name the goal you want, notice where you are bargaining for safety, and bring the whole meaning to the Holy Spirit. Vision then becomes less a dramatic experience and more a steady simplification: one Teacher, one purpose, one shared way of seeing.
Reflect
What goal am I pursuing in this moment—sacrifice or joining—and how does my faith supply either chains or freedom as an experience?
Practice
Stop and name the goal you are seeking in a current conflict. If it involves sacrifice or bargaining, offer that goal to the Holy Spirit and ask for a new one. For one minute, practice extending faith toward joining—seeing your brother as ally rather than opponent.
