Understand the Motifs

Ego: The ego is the self you believe yourself to be once separation is taken as true: a false identity built on guilt and fear that uses attack and judgment to preserve itself. It is a delusional thought system erected to defend that identity, with no power except what you give it through belief.

Teaching–Learning: The reciprocal process through which what is taught is learned by the teacher, and what is learned shapes both mind and world, making teaching and learning an inescapable responsibility and power.

T-7.III The Reality of the Kingdom acim.org/acim/en

The Kingdom is recognized as a shared present reality when you choose the Holy Spirit over the scarcity principle, so competition gives way to joining, certainty, and peace.

As you read, notice how the themes Ego and Teaching–Learning appear in this section.

Reflect

Where do I treat peace or equality as if it were betrayal of my self-interest or identity?

What do my recent interpretations teach about me—guilty and alone, or innocent and joined?

Practice

When you notice suspicion about someone’s motives, pause and say, “This is the ego’s war-minded lesson.” Ask the Holy Spirit to reinterpret the person as an equal, and accept one quiet thought of shared interest.

Pick one recurring judgment you have about yourself or someone else. For one minute, practice replacing it with an exceptionless thought of shared innocence. Let your mind feel the difference as the beginning of a new, consistent lesson.
