T-13.V The Two Emotions acim.org/acim/en
Fear and Love are set side by side: one builds a private dream through projection, the other is shared through Christ’s vision and the Holy Spirit’s correction.
Recognize What's Happening Beneath
Underneath the teaching about emotions is an undoing of the ego’s entire strategy. The private world is a defense for autonomy: it tries to make the body’s eyes and the past into authorities, so guilt can stay justified and love can be kept at a distance. This is why love can seem threatening—because it exposes the cost of separation.
The correction is gentle and very specific: responsibility without blame. Bring the instant of certainty, accusation, or self-condemnation to the Holy Spirit, and choose again. As guilt is withdrawn, vision naturally clarifies, communication becomes a shared purpose, and you begin to experience yourself as the guiltless Son—discovering, not achieving, what remains unchanged.
Reflect
What do I mistake for Love because it feels intense, private, or urgent?
Practice
Bring to mind one strong attachment or fear. Ask whether it expands through giving or tightens through possession. Let that answer teach you the difference between Love and fear.
