Ground Yourself in the Section
T-2.I The Origins of Separation acim.org/acim/en
By contrasting Love’s extension with the ego’s self-authored dream of separation, this section shows how projection breeds fear—and how miracles return the mind to peace.
Projection: The misuse of mind’s creative power of extension in which you attempt to disown content within yourself and place it outside, making the world appear to be the cause of your inner condition rather than its effect.
Notice the Ego's Pattern
The seed stop gives the motif its governing idea. Projection is not described as simple blame yet, but as a misuse of the mind's power. Instead of extending from fullness, the mind imagines a lack and tries to solve it by substituting its own making for truth. Projection therefore arises from a false premise: something real is missing, and the self must manufacture a substitute.
That matters because it places projection at the level of cause. Later forms of anger, accusation, and world-making all grow from this first mistake. If the mind believes it can alter creation, author itself, and fill an invented emptiness, projection will seem both necessary and justified. The correction is a return to true extension, which comes from wholeness rather than deficiency.
Reflect
Where do I still assume something essential is missing in me and must be supplied from outside?
Practice
Pause for a moment and notice one felt lack. Instead of planning how to fill it, say gently: This sense of lack is not my truth. I will not build a self from it.
Creation / Extension: The outpouring of being itself through giving, in which to create is to extend what you are and thereby increase without loss, while remaining joined to your Source.
Receive the Correction
A major turn arrives when extension is named as God’s natural outflow and the Son’s shared inheritance. Creation is no longer only a contrast term; it becomes a movement. Because the Son was created perfect and lacking nothing, extension is presented as inner radiance rather than self-completion. Projection belongs to a different logic altogether. It tries to fill a supposed emptiness with personal ideas and therefore starts from deficiency. This stop also brings in freedom. Love creates through freely given extension, not compulsion. The result is a much richer picture of creation: it is inherited, joyful, radiant, and impossible to separate from the wholeness of its source.
Reflect
When I reach outward, am I extending from fullness or projecting from a sense that something is missing in me?
Practice
Think of one interaction ahead of you today. Before entering it, say quietly: “I do not need to get anything here. I can extend.” Notice how that changes the purpose you bring.
