Understand the Motif
Decision: Decision is the one remaining freedom and power, the continuous choice between two fixed alternatives: truth or illusion, love or fear, God or the ego. Every decision is made at the level of mind and determines what you perceive.
Decision: You are always deciding, in every instant, which teacher to follow and which thought system to align with. The two alternatives are not multiple or flexible; they are fixed and mutually exclusive. Decision is not made by the body or through behavior but only at the level of mind, and what you decide is immediately reflected in what you see and how you interpret the world. The loss of peace is the signal that you have chosen wrongly—information rather than condemnation, since a mistaken decision is corrected by deciding again and not by punishment. When you decide from the ego, you perceive a world of scarcity, attack, and loss; when you decide with the Holy Spirit, you perceive holiness and innocence.

T-24.I Specialness as a Substitute for Love · Paragraphs 1-2, 5-6 acim.org/acim/en
Expose the secret decision for specialness that keeps war quietly running within.
As you read, notice how the theme Decision appears in these paragraphs.
Consider the Context
Wrong decisions are traced to hidden beliefs. Specialness is portrayed as the dictator because it forces conflict to preserve difference. When the mind withholds love, it is making a decision for a substitute, and the substitute is a quiet decision for war.
The danger is not that you are openly attacking, but that the decision stays unrecognized. Its senseless outcomes can be kept hidden while still directing later choices. This section restores responsibility to the mind: peace is not lost by accident. It remains at the mercy of conflict only while the mind refuses to look at the decision for specialness and choose again for love.
Reflect
What special advantage am I protecting that turns my relationships into a quiet battleground?
Practice
Notice one withholding today—a kindness you won’t give, a forgiveness you delay, a truth you use as a weapon. Treat it as a decision for specialness. Bring it to the Holy Spirit and choose love instead, even for one minute.
