Understand the Motif
Love: Love is the one real emotion: all-encompassing, changeless, and the fundamental power of creation that extends itself infinitely. It cannot be learned, only recognized and allowed.
Love: Love is the actual substance of reality, the creative force that gives being to everything. It is whole and indivisible, admitting no part, no exceptions, and no absence; where it appears to be missing, fear has simply obscured it from perception. Love has no opposite because only what is partial and limited can be opposed, and love is without limit. What the ego calls love—clinging, sacrifice, jealousy—can be recognized by the fact that it turns into hate when its terms are not met; what is real does not change. It is freedom, strength, and the only real basis for relationships and communication, for it is the joining of minds beyond form.
Notice the Shift
When it comes to justice, right-mindedness invites you to shift:
Consider the Context
The world often defines justice as punishment, so vengeance can feel “strong” and love can seem weak. This stop reverses the whole assumption by insisting that, in God, Love and justice are the same. That unity is what makes mercy possible.
When judgment is split off from Love, you will use it to attack innocence and call it fairness. But Love’s justice is fair in a different way: it corrects mistakes without justifying attack. The section ends with a simple practice principle—let Love decide. Trust that God’s justice will not deprive you of what is due, because what is due is peace, not punishment.
Reflect
Where do I still want vengeance called “justice,” and what would it feel like to let Love correct without attack?
Practice
Think of a situation where you want someone to pay, including yourself. Admit the desire for punishment without judging it. Ask the Holy Spirit to return justice to Love: “Correct the mistake, not the person.” Sit quietly for one minute and let mercy feel like strength.
