T-28.VI The Secret Vows acim.org/acim/en

Secret vows to stay separate and suffer are uncovered as mind-made bargains enacted through the body, and undone by choosing again, joining minds, and accepting God’s shared promise.

Recognize What's Happening Beneath

Beneath the talk of bodies and symptoms lies a question of loyalty: which promise will I keep? The ego asks for secrecy, because hidden vows protect a private identity—special, separate, and justified in grievance. Suffering then becomes a currency that seems to purchase innocence or control.

Gentleness enters when experience is not denied but relocated. Bring the secret bargain to the Holy Spirit—especially the wish to be separate or to make someone pay—and let the shared Will of God replace it with a single purpose: joining.

Reflect

What bodily complaint or discipline do I use to avoid choosing again in mind?

Practice

Notice one place you are blaming or policing the body today. Say inwardly, “The body has no will; my purpose is what needs help.” Offer that purpose to the Holy Spirit and ask for one gentle alternative use—one small act of communication instead of defense.
