Understand the Motifs

Separation: The belief that it is possible to be apart from God: one that never became fact but generates an entire system of thought centered on the ego, guilt, and the perception of an isolated, fragmented world. It is the root of all suffering and the source of everything that requires healing.

Death / Suffering: Death and suffering are beliefs the ego invented to enforce allegiance to separation, guilt, and the false identity of being a body rather than spirit.

T-3.VII Creating versus the Self-Image acim.org/acim/en

Self-image is unmasked as a made perception from the authority problem, and the mind is led from fearful defense in time to Creation, Knowledge, and the Kingdom.

Reflect

What thought patterns in me still seem powerful simply because I have believed them for a long time?

When I feel threatened, do I interpret the undoing of ego defenses as loss or death, and what part of me fears letting that identity go?

Practice

Choose one recurring mental story and say, This may feel convincing without being true. Sit quietly for a moment and let truth have more authority than familiarity.

Notice one moment of defensiveness today. Tell yourself: “This is fear of losing a self-image, not the loss of real life.” Offer the fear to the Holy Spirit, and be willing to feel one degree more open than before.
