The Inner Shift

Constancy replaces bargaining as the mind chooses again, recognizing the Holy Instant, relocating cause to thought, and letting prayer, willingness, and forgiveness reveal the peace already given.

Teachings Drawn from This Section

  1. Changelessness. Joy is treated as eternal and therefore incapable of turning into sorrow. Happiness dependent on outcomes will always have exceptions, and exceptions are the tell. Real joy has no reservations, needs no protection, and does not need to be earned again tomorrow.

  2. Prayer. Prayer matures from episodic crisis-management into a way of living. Short affirmations let the mind rest in guiltlessness. The holy instant becomes prayer’s lived form: offering the present moment to the Holy Spirit, shared with your brother. A single wholehearted desire is enough, because desire itself is the asking and God does not fail to answer.

  3. Right-mindedness. Reason replaces madness without attack. From reason’s standpoint, sin is not a conclusion but a call for help you can answer. Giving and receiving become the same movement—refusing help defends separation. The mind is no longer trying to prove innocence; it is letting innocence be recognized. The honest question arrives: you have learned to be partly sane—are you willing to be wholly sane?
