Illusions. All illusions are equally false—the differences you defend are differences of preference, not reality. The ego needs a hierarchy of illusions to justify its fear. Even one cherished illusion invites the entire thought system that supports it: sin, attack, sacrifice, death. Friendship with shadows narrows life into solitude.

Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is Guest, Friend, Presence—already waiting at the threshold. He cannot help without invitation, not from withholding but from respecting choice. Cherished illusions are the substitutes that seem to occupy the throne prepared for Him, and the instruction is simply refusal of substitutes. His gifts may go unnoticed when not wholly welcomed, but peace replacing conflict, even briefly, is His signature.
