Recognizing the world as a chosen dream, the mind can choose again—accepting Atonement and Creation’s Love—until the Memory of God restores the Kingdom as our unchanged Home.

From each motif's Teachings, the teachings and reversals that draw on this section, in the order of the motifs' salience here. Many draw on other sections too, listed beneath them.

Teachings Drawn from This Section

  1. Dream. Exile is modeled as a dream you can stop preferring. Trading one dream for another—nightmare for romance, tragedy for success—is not awakening. When you truly want only truth, dreaming becomes impossible, because your preference shifts at the level of mind. Calling the world a dream can become spiritual bypass; the Course aims the other direction, relocating cause in the mind so forgiveness becomes possible.

  2. Separation. The experience of separation becomes exile—homelessness, wandering without a home. The ego’s feverish autonomy interprets dependence as threat and harmony as dangerous. Inner worlds, hidden truths, and secret thoughts become structures of exclusion: the ego’s concept of privacy is always a concept of exclusion. The moment the mind chooses a concealed truth, it has chosen conflict—different truths require different realities, different realities require separation, and separation requires fear.

  3. Memory of God. Memory stops meaning the past. What is truly remembered is eternal and therefore present now. When desire is undivided, remembrance need not be gradual—the delay is ambivalence, not time. The decision to forget is exposed as a decision, not an accident, and remembering God and remembering the Self are revealed as the same movement.
