Understanding This Section

Voice

The voice here is corrective, actively challenging what the ego has made to seem reasonable. Both thought systems are explicitly contrasted throughout.

Approach

This section operates at the practical level, focused on the work the learner does within experience. The abstraction is primarily psychological, focused on inner dynamics within experience.

Focus

The teaching leans toward the interpersonal, foregrounding how the learner sees another person. Multiple relational contexts are also woven through.

Setting the Stage

A call for faith is a call to notice where certainty has been placed. When the mind invests faith in the ego’s interpretation, the problem is pushed outward—into bodies, past causes, and circumstances—and then seems impossible to resolve.

The pivot is simple and uncompromising: keep cause at the source by choosing again. From there, every situation can be re-seen as a relationship classroom, where a chosen purpose quietly determines what the situation will mean.

The Threads That Meet

Faith threads through purpose: set the goal first and let the means follow. Cause and effect are relocated from the world to the mind, so the dream’s appearances and the body’s conclusions are treated as effects of a chosen teacher rather than as facts that rule you.

That shift immediately becomes relational. Joining undoes the habit of private judgment, and the holy relationship is described as a goal applied in every circumstance, not a mood reserved for special moments. Giving and receiving are reversed into one movement—what is extended in trust is what is found—and shared innocence clears the interference of past-based blame.

Correction is the third strand: temptation offers counterfeit peace through compromise, projection exports a private misperception and calls it outside, and judgment keeps conflict and guilt in place. The Holy Spirit’s answer is the miracle—an internal correction whose effect is peace—so salvation is approached as the willingness to let peace, not management of form, be the way through.

Key Moments

The section’s marked turn is the recognition that faithlessness is the real mistake: certainty given to the ego shifts the problem away from the mind, and therefore away from where it can be healed.

From that hinge, choosing holiness as the goal gives the means their direction. Privacy is exposed as isolation, and joining restores trust. Temptation can then be met without being used, by letting the Holy Spirit answer. As judgment is withdrawn and projection is undone, miracles become the natural evidence of a shared goal, and peace is accepted as the direction of salvation—right now.

Beneath the Surface

Underneath the specific themes is a steady refrain: faith is never absent; it is always assigned. Lack of faith is simply faith given to separation’s story, which makes time, bodies, and the world seem causal.

Reassigning faith to the Holy Spirit does not demand dramatic change; it asks for a quiet consistency. The present becomes the bridge, the dream becomes transparent, and relationships become the place where the mind learns that joining—not private certainty—is what keeps peace.
