Beyond All Symbols
Symbols become learning aids when forgiveness reinterprets them, joining replaces separation now, and the mind relaxes past fear and time into the peace that prepares for Knowledge.

Teachings Drawn from This Section
-
Form—Content. Even the best images are not the truth; they are temporary bridges. Pictures cannot represent creation. The brother-image you made is built out of contradictions, leaving a vacancy. Forgiveness provides a provisional replacement picture—a gentler symbol to undo a cruel one—and then even that kinder picture is meant to fade when direct knowing is welcomed.
-
Perception—Knowledge. Reality is known without form—without images, without sight. The brother-image, built on the supposed cause of separation, cannot remain once that cause is recognized as false. Forgiveness and the exchange of pictures are honored as temporary steps, but the goal is simple being. The Holy Spirit uses pictures because you believe in pictures; He meets you where you think you are.
-
Perception—Knowledge. The motif closes at a threshold: you will still perceive, still interpret, still feel the urge to use perception as evidence. The question narrows to whether you will notice that perception is a chosen interpretation and share it without deceit—a repeated relinquishment of the wish to make pictures prove something, until what needs no picture can simply be.
-
Revelation. At the zenith, revelation is portrayed as a power beyond forgiveness where symbols fade and sensory perception ends—not destructively, but like scaffolding falling away. The entire Course is made of symbols; miracles use them as learning aids. The goal is the certainty beyond symbols. The instruction that remains is practical: choose again where you would attack, let miracles shorten time, let guidance lead, and let the end belong to God.
