The Healing Example
Healing is a miracle received in a Holy Instant of love without attack, then extended through the Holy Spirit as shared learning that undoes fear and judgment.
Understanding This Section
This section primarily explains, with corrective moments woven through. Poetic passages thread through, adding an elevated, image-rich quality to the primary register. The Holy Spirit’s reinterpretation is foregrounded throughout.
This section operates at the practical level, focused on the work the learner does within experience. The abstraction bridges levels, using psychological material to illuminate metaphysical principles.
The relational focus is explicitly mixed, contrasting multiple relational contexts. The learner’s own mind also receives significant attention.
Setting the Stage
Healing is used as the clearest example of how correction happens: you accept the miracle for yourself, and what you received naturally extends. The requirement is kept small and immediate—an instant of willingness and a brief absence of fear—so healing is not postponed until the ego’s conditions are satisfied.
From that inner shift, comfort and peace are carried back into situations that still look conflicted. The emphasis stays on cause: the mind changes first, and perception follows.
The Threads That Meet
Miracle, Holy Instant, Love, Peace, and Time meet to make one point: healing is a change of content, not a process measured by duration. The Holy Instant becomes the miracle’s home base—one moment in which attack is withdrawn long enough for love to be unopposed, letting time serve learning instead of delay.
Holy Spirit, Teaching–Learning, and Giving/Receiving explain how that shift spreads. Your role is to listen and apply the lesson to yourself; transfer of learning is handled by the inner Teacher, reinforced through witnesses as your brother becomes the first proof that healing is shared.
Fear, Attack, Judgment, Illusions, and the images of Death/Suffering expose what resists the process. The ego uses condemnation, bodily evidence, and future-time bargaining to keep conflict real, while the miracle reinterprets the same scene and replaces accusation with a gentler vision.
Key Moments
The section’s explicit summit is healing itself: you can only offer healing by first letting yourself be healed. It is received in the Holy Instant—the place where fear and attack pause long enough for love without attack to be accepted, and the miracle can extend by its own nature.
Proof is shown as a shift in perception rather than dramatic control of form: reproach gives way to gratitude, suffering to comfort, and the relationship becomes a witness that the problem was never unique. From one healed lesson, the Holy Spirit generalizes the answer across many situations you would have kept separate.
Beneath the Surface
Underneath the examples, the section corrects a subtle confusion about cause. The ego bargains for outcomes and uses time, the body, and the past as evidence that guilt and fear are justified; healing reverses that by returning responsibility to the decision-maker without blame—choose again at the level of meaning.
That is why joining matters so much here: condemnation is self-attack disguised, and exceptions preserve specialness. As forgiveness becomes correction in perception, healing is recognized as a gift offered to the Sonship as a whole—and in that sense, returned to God.
