Your Function in the Atonement
Your function is to make Atonement visible by seeing your brother guiltless, choosing the Holy Spirit’s interpretation, and letting forgiveness undo guilt until perception yields to knowledge.

Teachings Drawn from This Section
-
Atonement. Accepting Atonement makes complete forgiveness possible because guiltlessness was already accomplished for you. You perceive Atonement in a brother when you accept his guiltlessness, and proclaiming innocence in him makes it yours—shifting you from asking to be forgiven to learning how to forgive.
-
Guiltlessness. The decision for guiltlessness is explicit agency, moment by moment. The choice is between the rewards of blame and the happiness of peace. Your brother’s innocence is your Atonement—you cannot recognize it shining in him while you believe it is absent in you. A guilty and a guiltless mind cannot truly communicate because they serve different purposes.
-
Communication. The line of communication God placed within you cannot be wholly shut. You can interfere; you cannot erase it. Yet guiltless and guilty self-concepts are mutually unintelligible—if you insist on guilt as identity, you will interpret communication from the Holy Spirit as threat.
