Teachings Drawn from This Section
-
Specialness. Whenever you lose peace, you have found sin in a brother and taken a secret satisfaction in it because it makes specialness feel protected. Specialness is counterfeit joy—fascination with wrongdoing, dark pleasure in judgment. It does not make you happier; it makes you smaller. The alternative is the simplicity in Christ that has no need to be exceptional.
-
Death / Suffering. Specialness dresses the “gift” of death in glitter—the frame looks shining but the picture inside is blood and tears. If you accept the gift, you accept the premise that love is costly and ends in loss. The ego can even make death look charitable, offering it as mercy or noble sacrifice.
-
Salvation. Salvation cannot be compromised. You cannot keep a small corner of attack and still know peace—if attack is kept, salvation would inherit the ego’s violence. Specialness is the wish for different laws for you, a solo rescue preserving distance. The brother holds the key to Heaven; the idol of specialness cannot save you both. The real question is whether you want to see your brother innocent. Salvation is the decision to let innocence be what you look upon.
