The Present Memory
Time and guilt are reinterpreted in the holy instant, where the Holy Spirit’s miracle restores the present memory of God and joins minds in quiet peace.

Teachings Drawn from This Section
-
Memory of God. At the motif’s peak, memory is declared present—not present as a future gift but as now. The ego uses remembering to preserve guilt and the sense of time; the Holy Spirit keeps the Memory of God intact beneath that. The small gap separating illusions from reality is not real distance but a belief you keep revisiting, and the bridge across it is willingness, not construction.
-
Miracle. Late in the Text, the miracle is described as adding nothing—only removing interference. Healing is effortless in itself; resistance is what feels like work. Agency shifts from moving mountains to opening your hand, from manufacturing correction to ceasing to interfere with what is already given.
-
Holy Instant. The teaching arrives finally in a gesture small enough to miss: pause before you answer your brother. Let what you thought you heard be set aside. Old images fall away, and a different response becomes possible—one that comes from joining rather than defense. You do not have to make the instant or deserve it; you have to stop interfering long enough to let it be given.
-
Healing. Healing is undoing rather than doing. The impulse to fix is recognized as another form of interference. Every pain becomes an occasion to choose again. It is the repeated willingness to hold nothing back—no grievance, no fear, no cherished exception—because every exception is a vote for separation. A moment of love without attack can arrive, and the whole heavy story can loosen just enough for you to be healed together.
